William Hope Hodgson

William Hope Hodgson was an English author who produced a large body of work spanning horror, fantastic fiction, and science fiction. Drawing on his personal experiences at sea, he wrote numerous short stories set on the ocean, including the Sargasso Sea Stories, as well as novels that often focused on maritime horrors. His bibliography also includes novels with cosmic themes, such as The House on the Borderland and The Night Land, alongside early efforts in poetry.

Beyond his writing, Hodgson achieved renown as a bodybuilder and attracted notice as a photographer. Though he dedicated significant effort to poetry early in his career, few of his poems were published during his lifetime. He died at the age of 40 while serving in World War I.
